SMART Notebook 16.2 Update



Birdville ISD recently purchased an upgrade to the Notebook 11.4 software that is currently used on SMART Boards.  Notebook 16.2 looks very similar to the current version of Notebook but adds many new features that will support multiple content areas as well as provide new opportunities for collaboration and formative assessment feedback.  
If you currently have a SMART Board, we are asking that you please update at this time. Directions for updating can be found at the bottom of this message.


Note: Updating to SMART Notebook 16 removes the ability to use the old SMART Clickers.  However, the new software includes SMART Response 2, which works with laptops and iPads instead of clickers.
Some of the new features include:
  • SMART Lab
    • SMART lab gives teachers the means to quickly build game-based activities that amaze and engage students on their devices or front-of-room display.
  • SMART Response 2
    • Create a question set to complement your lesson in just a few minutes. Students answer the questions on their desktop computers, laptops, tablets or phones. Teachers get an instant report (in a pie graph or word cloud), as well as the ability to export those results.
  • SMART Blocks
    • SMART Blocks is an add-on that enables you to perform math activities with your class by writing numbers on the page, and then connecting them to a SMART Block. You can choose from seven different equation types to work with.
  • GeoGebra
    • GeoGebra is an interactive mathematics software for all levels of education. When you insert the GeoGebra widget in SMART Notebook software, you can explore geometry, algebra, tables, graphing, statistics and calculus with your students.
  • SMART amp
    • Create and collaborate on a digital canvas, anywhere, anytime.
Notebook Install Instructions
  1. Click on the Start button, All Programs, and BISD Software Center. Use this link if you need help finding the Software Center https://goo.gl/EEnhNP
  2. Once the center opens, find SMART Notebook Learning Suite 16.2 in the list.
  3. Click the title to highlight and then click ‘Install’ in the bottom right corner.
  4. Click ‘Yes’ to the pop up window. Installation usually takes from 15-20 minutes.
  5. Once the software has installed, it is a good idea to restart your computer before     using your SMART board.

SMART Amp is a collaborative workspace where you can share and work on a variety of lessons.  SMART amp brings the whole class, groups of students or individuals together in a shared space to work on projects, add multimedia content and instant message. This is all done using student devices and while tracking contributions from each student, so educators have insight into who is contributing what.It does not require the use of a SMART board and can be used on laptops and mobile devices.
